Mentorship House

WHAT IS THE MENTORSHIP HOUSE?

The Mentorship House will provide transitional housing, vocational training, and spiritual development for kids aging out of orphanages. The program will support 20-28 young adults at a time over a two year period. The property is just 11 minutes away from the Ranch in town. The property is centrally located near the beach, grocery stores and La Hermosa church.

Thanks to a generous donor, the lot is paid in full. We are fundraising to raise $250,000 to build the home that will house 20-28 young adults aging out of the orphan care system.

FAQ

WHAT IS THE NEED FOR A YOUNG ADULT MENTORSHIP HOUSE IN MEXICO?

Kids who grow up in orphanages in Mexico often don't learn the life skills needed to navigate life. Once they turn 18, kids are abandoned once again and forced to leave the orphanage completely ill-equipped for life outside. Many kids don’t know life skills, like how to manage a personal budget, boil an egg, take a bus to school, or build a supportive network around them.

These kids don't have opportunities for education, vocational training, or real growth. The cycle of poverty continues, and eventually more children are left in orphanages, or worse, abandoned in the streets.

Currently, there is NO PLACE for kids aging out of orphanages to turn to in Baja.

WHY THE MENTORSHIP HOUSE?

The Mentorship House has been a long-time dream of the founders of Rancho La Hermosa Orphanage and is the final piece in caring for abandoned children from infancy into adulthood.

Our #1 goal, what we truly feel God has called us to, is to create an environment where these young people can experience the love of God in a way that changes their life forever.

WHO IS THIS NEW PROGRAM FOR? IS IT JUST FOR RANCHO LA HERMOSA ORPHANAGE KIDS?

This home will be open to all kids aging out of orphanages near the town of Primo Tapia, in addition to kids from Rancho La Hermosa Orphanage. This is the first program in the One Generation Alliance network and is the first initiative to provide support to our partner orphanages.

WHAT SERVICES WILL BE OFFERED AT THE MENTORSHIP HOUSE?

Young adults will be plugged into vocational training (welding, dental assistant, hospitality, construction, etc.) or will attend college full-time. Live-in staff will help with budgeting and basic life skills, and will encourage these kids when life gets hard and they feel like giving up. Young adults will be responsible for paying a small portion of the rent, as part of the basic life skills training.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR?

Thanks to a small handful of generous donors, we purchased the new property in Primo Tapia outright. We are currently raising funds to build the Mentorship House from the ground up. Funds will be used to pay skilled workers and purchase construction materials. We are budgeting $250,000 for this new building. Every dollar donated will be maximized!

WHEN WILL YOU START BUILDING THE NEW SITE?

We are currently finalizing the architectural blueprints for the building. Our goal is to break ground in January 2023.

WHY SHOULD I GIVE TO THIS PROJECT?

This is more than a building fundraising campaign. We are inviting you to help raise up the next generation of mothers, fathers, neighbors, dentists, teachers, or pastors in Baja Mexico. This endeavor is so much bigger than anything we could do on our own. We need the support and comradery of all of those coming our way so that together we can accomplish big things!
